Whether it’s poetry, film-making, painting, writing, crocheting or knitting, students can produce creative pieces or artworks during sessions. A newsletter will be sent out to the school and published on our website, containing all member’s works. Each issue will have one theme to advocate or speak up for, chosen and voted for by the members. Alternatively, events like exhibitions, poetry slams and more will be organised, depending on the types of works produced. Overall, we aim to use creativity to make a difference and give voice to important issues in our community and beyond, whilst giving some time to members to work on things they’re passionate about, the way they want to.
CAS Strand: Creativity and Service
Creativity: The CCA allows students to have outlets for their individual creativity whilst also making a difference in the community with their artworks. Through the medium of art they decide to work on every three months, they can demonstrate and hone skills such as film-making, poetry, crocheting, knitting, painting, drawing, storytelling, prose-writing, and photography, doing whatever they might choose.
Service: Service has many different aspects, one being advocacy. Our newsletters and artworks will be around one theme every three months. This theme can be based on an issue, a community, a person, a concept, a cause, or even charities and organisations that we feel need to be brought to the community’s attention. This is a form of advocacy, and all newsletter and events will contain information on the cause.
Lasallian Principles: Consern for the Poor and Inclusive Community
Concern for the Poor and Social Justice: Members will be working on artworks that are aimed to speak up about issues in communities or even the world at large. We will especially advocate for people or communities that are less fortunate, treated differently, or facing injustices. This spreads awareness about important issues and educates our school community.
Inclusive community: In the CCA, as we choose the cause we wish to advocate for, we will keep in mind that some causes are things that most people overlook or don’t know about. We plan on listening to all members’ concerns and things that they’re passionate about, so we can gain a range of topics to advocate for. Members will research and conduct surveys to understand the issues students want to know more about.
