MINDS

MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled in Singapore)

This service activity is entirely student driven and led. Students need to be open-minded towards differences, creative and patient. The team works with clients at MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled in Singapore), planning class games/activities in the form of an activity book that will help to train some of their social and cognitive skills in an interactive way. Some interested students can also help to make interactive dance videos to help the clients be more active! You will have the opportunity to make some of the clients' daily learning programs and be a great help to the staff, whilst developing your collaboration skills in the process.

CAS Strand: Service

It involves understanding of the clients needs and empathise with their struggles while assisting them in their learning. This service aims to enrich the development of PWIDs (people with intellectual disabilities). Students will develop and apply social and collaboration skills to make a positive contribution to the education program at MINDS.

Lasallian Principles: Inclusive Community, Quality Education and Respect for All Persons

Working with people with intellectual disabilities requires respect for their learning differences, their strengths and their needs. This service aims to create an inclusive community through the activities that our students and the clients at MINDS undertake together. The activities are curated to allow for interaction and inclusion of all needs. This allows our students to use their creativity and to develop activities and allows the clients to participate in activities differentiated by strengths.

Student Testimonial: MINDS is constantly welcoming towards volunteers and there are many enriching opportunities to interact with the clients. Our engagements have revolved around conducting class games/activities that train some of their social and cognitive skills in an interactive way. I would highly recommend this service to anyone who is open-minded towards differences, creative and patient. You will have the opportunity to make the clients' daily program at their centre more interesting and be a great help to the staff, whilst developing your collaboration skills in the process.
