Rock CLimbing

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is the process of ascending cliffs. It involves following certain routes on a rock face requiring the use of formed handholds and footholds and specialised equipment as a backup safety system. In this CCA, students will use the rock climbing walls on campus, receive initial training and ongoing coaching to develop their rock climbing skills and confidence.

CAS Strand: Activity

Rock climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport, one that often tests a climber's strength, endurance, agility and balance along with mental control. Knowledge of proper climbing techniques and the use of specialised climbing equipment is crucial for the safe completion of climbing routes.

Lasallian Principles: Quality Education

Climbing is a skill-based activity. Before climbing your first rock face, it's essential that students learn some of the basics. Skills, like belaying, rappelling, and setting anchors, mean that you and your climbing partner can have a safe experience. Likewise, learning finger grips and practicing how your entire body moves in sync will help to climb faster and have more fun while doing so.
