DebatING

Debating

The school's debating Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) serves as a platform for students to receive comprehensive support in honing their debate skills. With access to expert coaches, structured training, and hands-on experience through mock trials, students are equipped to independently participate in various debating competitions. Through this CCA, students not only engage with global issues of significance but also develop proficient public speaking skills and gain a deep understanding of the technical aspects of the 'world schools' debate format.

CAS Strand: Creativity

Participation in a debating training CCA fosters creativity by encouraging students to think critically and creatively when formulating arguments and counterarguments on a wide range of topics. This intellectual flexibility and the need to explore innovative perspectives enrich their ability to express themselves persuasively and construct compelling narratives.

Students engage with issues of an ethical nature and of global importance. They will learn about these issues while preparing for debates, and then argues cases on how best to deal with these issues. Students learn how to be critical and organised. They develop confidence, teamwork and public speaking skills.

Student Testimonials:

Debating is a super enriching and fulfilling experience, I advise anyone who has a good voice and enunciation to go and try out for debates!

I would recommend debate because it gives you a chance to think two sided and even win debated off your personal preference. It is also great socially because you get to interact with many people.

The Debate CCA taught me a lot. We debated every week- it got a bit repetitive at times but nothing beats the adrenaline of getting better at debates and seeing myself and my friends improve!
