Mock Trial CLub

Mock Trial Club

The Mock Trial CCA is intended to prepare Lawyers of the future. Students will engage in practice sessions, 'Full' Mock sessions and have the ability to join Mock Trial competitions.

Practice Sessions are intended to familiarise students with specific Mock Trial components such as direct examination, cross-examination, objections and impeaching a witness. Student leaders will demonstrate and explain key skills and allow time for students to practice and demonstarte them. Feedback will be provided to sypport student growth.

Full Mock Trial Sessions aim to consolidate the student's knowledge of individual mock trial components and familiarise students with courtroom proceedings, through a full simulation of a mock trial that incorporates both. Students will be given the case material in advance and are expected to prepare beforehand. Students will be split into separate sides, prosecution and defence, to simulate a mock trial. The CCA student leaders and teacher supervisor will moderate and carry out the mock trial. Feedback will be given throughout.

CAS Strand: Creativity

The Mock Trial Club aligns with the CAS ‘Creativity’ strand, defined as providing ‘students with the opportunity to explore their own sense of original thinking and expression’.

It encourages students to utilise their individual interpretations of trial cases to form creative strategies to win mock trials. Students are given the opportunity to apply their own innovative thinking to best use each mock trial component to their advantage. With this, the CCA will create a healthy competitive environment that celebrates original thinking and expression.

Lasallian Principles: Quality Education

The Mock Trial Club is aligned with the Lasallian Value of ‘Quality Education’, which is defined as preparing ‘students not only for college and career but also for life’.

It prepares students in this way by developing their critical thinking and analytical skills, both of which are crucial to thriving in their future - be it in a workplace, school environment, or general social setting.

Beyond cultivating this essential foundation for all attending students, the CCA further prepares students interested in the field of Law as a career path by giving them a deeper insight into the litigation process and court trials.
