Tabletop RPG Club

Tabletop RPG Club

Tabletop role playing games, also known as pen-and-paper role playing games, have been entertaining players for decades using nothing more than a pencil, some dice and an ability to think outside the box. The precursor and inspiration for many RPG video games, table top RPGs require you to think creatively and put your imaginations to the test whilst also allowing you to build your social and communication skills. Players start by creating your own characters before embarking upon wild and treacherous journeys together, testing your abilities to work as a team, tackle puzzles and defeat the bad guys. Will you be searching for treasure? Slaying monters? Rescuing defenseless villagers? This is for the Dungeon Master to decide! Tabletop RPG club primarily uses a simplified version of Dungeons and Dragons, although other one-shot TTRPGs may also be played at various times. The rules are always explained at the start of each CCA season, meaning that both newbies and seasoned players are more than welcome to join. There will also be opportunities for members of the CCA to develop their own skills as a Dungeon Master if they wish, giving them ultimate control over the hapless adventurers!

CAS Strand: Creativity

Role playing games can only succeed with a healthy dose of creativity and imagination. Every session will require students to put themselves in the mindset of their character and make decisions, both individually and collectively, to solve the problems they come across throughout the adventure.

Lasallian Principles: Quality education and Respect for All Persons

This CCA supports the Lasallian principle of quality of education by encouraging students to think creatively, use their imaginations and to practise thinking quickly and clearly under pressure. It also provides students the opportunity to develop their confidence and communication skills, as groups will only be successful in an adventure if they work well together. As a result, mutual respect is also a crucial aspect of this CCA because listening to each other and working collaboratively is at the heart tabletop role playing games.
