Unpacking US College Applications

The club will help students in navigating the confusing and complicated process of applying to universities in the United States. Each week will focus on a different aspect of the application process and will aid students in preparing their application materials.

CAS Strand: Creativity

Creativity: Students will engage in US application essay writing, which requires a creative mindset. For example, when applying to UChicago, choose a prompt to respond to - one of which is the following: "A jellyfish is not a fish. Cat burglars don’t burgle cats. Rhode Island is not an island. Write an essay about some other misnomer, and either come up with and defend a new name for it or explain why its inaccurate name should be kept."

Lasallian Principles: Inclusive Community and Quality Education

Inclusive Community: By providing a platform that addresses the complexities of applying to U.S. universities, the club ensures that all students, regardless of background or prior knowledge, have access to the information and resources they need. Weekly focus sessions allow for personalized attention and cater to diverse learning styles, ensuring that each student can participate fully and benefit from the community. This inclusivity fosters a supportive atmosphere where students from various cultures and educational backgrounds can share experiences, collaborate, and encourage one another.

Quality Education: The club's commitment to guiding students through each aspect of the application process contributes to a high standard of education outside the classroom. It helps students to develop a strong understanding of the admissions process, improve their application materials, and gain insights into the academic expectations of U.S. institutions. By equipping students with knowledge and practical skills, the club enhances their educational pathways and future academic success in the U.S.
