Sports For All is a fun and inclusive service CCA where all students are welcome to participate. Our main goal is to fundraise and advocate for athletes with intellectual disabilities , while also giving students the chance to actively contribute to a community. Our CCA partners with Special Olympics, a global organisation that aims to include and connect people with intellectual disabilities through sports. With this, students have the option to volunteer outside our CCA to train with the athletes on a regular basis, allowing them to build meaningful connections and foster a deeper understanding towards both the challenges the athletes may face and the strengths they bring to the sport.
CAS Strand: Service and Activity
Sports For All is a service and activity CCA. It links to the service component as we will be raising awareness about the unique opportunities and challenges athletes with intellectual disabilities face. Additionally, this CCA not only helps fund their activities with Special Olympics, giving them better access to training facilities, but also gives an opportunity to participate in sports with the athletes, linking this to the activity strand.
Lasallian Principles: Respect for All Persons and Inclusive Community
Our Service aligns with two Lasallian Values. Firstly, it aligns with the value of “respect for all persons'. In Sports For All, we work closely with athletes with intellectual disabilities. Through this, we learn more about their skills, interests and any challenges they may face when participating in sports, which will allow us to build relationships built on mutual respect . Secondly, it aligns with “an inclusive community" as we aim to have activities that all people can take part in and and involve the wider community outside SJII.
