Student FAQs

How do I sign up for a CCA? Can parents sign up their children?

Students must sign-up using their own account details to access the SOCS booking system.

Do I need to do a school based CCA?

Yes. Each student at SJII must be involved in a minimum of ONE CCA each term.

The only exceptions are Grade 10 and 12 students in term two who are busy preparing for their external examinations.

Do I need to do a CCA if I have significant external commitments?

Yes. Each student at SJII must be involved in a minimum of ONE school-based CCA each term.

CCAs are run before and after school and there is a range of experiences on offer to ensure that every student can engage with the program.

If I am training to represent Singapore do I need to do a school based CCA?

Yes. Each student at SJII must be involved in a minimum of ONE school-based CCA each term.

CCAs are run before and after school and there is a range of experiences on offer to ensure that every student can engage with the program.

I am in a 'council'. Does this count as a CCA?

Councils are not considered CCAs and therefore do not meet the expectation/policy of ONE CCA per student.

I am receiving academic mentoring. Does this count as a CCA?

As a mentee, this does not count as a CCA.

If you are a mentor however this is a valuable service that you are providing to younger members of the school community.

I am enrolled in the Instrumental Tuition Program (ITP) . Does this count as a CCA?

The ITP is not a recognised CCA.

Under exceptional circumstances where students are engaging in this program to develop necessary skills to join a band or the orchestra- the ITP may count as a CCA.

The CCA I signed up for is not running due to numbers. What should I do now?

If your CCA is not running you will likely have received an email from Ms Fe informing you of this.

Please visit Ms Fe in the enrichment staffroom located at 4A8 and/or contact her via email to explore your options.

The CCA I wanted to do is full. What should I do now?

For most CCAs once the CCA is full on a first come first serve basis you will not be able to join. But in some rare cases students do change their minds and drop out or for very popular CCAs another teacher may help support the experience and as a result more students can join.

The best thing to do is to email the teacher in charge of the CCA, express your interest and ask to be added to the waitlist.

What should I do if I can't attend my CCA?

Students are expected to have a 100% attendance record for their CCAs.

If a student is unable to attend a CCA session for any reason, it is expected that they contact their activity leader(s) in advance.

Can I withdraw from a CCA?

If a student wishes to withdraw from a CCA they must do so by the end of the second week (of the CCA term). After this date, requests will not be considered.

Why do I have to pay for some CCAs but others are free?

Most CCAs are free for students, but there are some which incur a small charge to compensate external facilitators such as robotics or to purchase single use materials for students which is the case for a range of specific art or craft CCAs or in the case of the cooking CCA to purchase ingredients.

Participation in sports CCAs may also require payment to engage professional coaches and/or book community facilities to play the sport.

Can '_________' count towards CAS?

Each CCA on offer is explicitly connected to one or more of the three CAS strands.

Please review the provided information to learn more about how the CCA aligns with CAS requirements.
