Haute.Glu

Love fashion and couture, but don’t know how to go about it ethically? Are you into garment designing, editorial photography or just a tree hugger in general? Join haute.glu! a service group fighting against the ill effects of fast fashion and overconsumption.

An existing service and creative CCA, we have previously held exhibitions to spread awareness about the dangers of Fast Fashion and created cultural boards, social media posts, and a dress made of recycled items.

Our CCA goals moving forward are to participate in competitions that recycle materials to create new art such as the Songbird art competition, we also hope to host cloth swaps! We hope to hear your ideas too and to move towards being the most fashionable yet ethical student body in SJII.

CAS Strand: Creativity and Service

Haute.glu will help participants develop their Creativity as well as their Service mindsets, as they learn how to become kinder to the Earth by thinking twice about their everyday choices. We will also run workshops to teach students how to create their own accessories from recycled materials. There will be opportunities to design garments, and do editorial photography This will also raise awareness about the dark nature behind fast fashion- and the unethical forms of labour that are used to generate garments at such lightning-fast speeds.

Lasallian Principles: Concern for the Poor and Respect for All Persons

Haute.glu will enable members to show concern for the poor and to develop their sense of social justice as they learn what constitutes fair wages, ethical consumption and carbon footprints.

Members will also begin to show respect for all persons, as they realise the work and oftentimes exploitation that goes behind every item they purchase. It will also support community inclusivity as everybody is welcome in this safe space! Members will be able to challenge their mindsets and those around them while simultaneously being respectful- which is a core and integral part of our school mission.
