Maths Mentoring

Maths Mentoring

As a school we have some really amazingly strong mathematicians but also we do have a small number of our students who struggle with the subject. These students are unable to access the curriculum for various reasons in class and need extra support outside of class.

Aim of the program:

To support the learning of students with identified needs by providing them with one-on-one mentorship outside of class. Senior School students work with Grade 7 to Grade 10 student to support them in their learning of Mathematics.

CAS Strand: Service

This Service enables Senior School students to identify and respond to an authentic need within our school community. Through this strand, members are given an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the school community through direct service. Senior school students understand that they the are not here just for their own learning but also, to help, care for and support others with genuine needs in our school community. Senior school mentors work with teacher ICs and their mentees to devise programs of learning that support the Mathematics mastery of their mentees. This service is an invaluable avenue for many of our mentees to bridge the gaps in their learning given the fact that they are not having outside tuition.

Lasallian Principles: Inclusive Community, Respect for All Persons and Quality Education

This service has our school community at its core. The focus is on inclusive education, collaboration and supporting each and every learner in our community for them to achieve their full potential. It is about breaking down barriers that prevent some in our community from accessing the curriculum. The mentor-mentee partnerships provide a platform for inclusive and respectful relationships to be developed, thus allowing quality education to flourish within our community.
