Pickleball is currently one of the fastest-growing sports in Singapore. It cleverly combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. With simple rules and an upbeat pace, it has won the hearts of people of all ages and genders, enjoying immense popularity across all age groups.
Compared to some traditional ball sports, pickleball is played on a smaller court, with a relatively slower ball speed and a lighter ball. This makes the exercise intensity more moderate and places less impact and stress on joints like the knees. It is a participant-friendly, more leisurely form of full-body exercise. Whether you're new to sports or an experienced enthusiast looking for a gentler way to stay active, pickleball is an excellent choice.
Here, you will not only learn the basic skills and strategies of the sport and enjoy the fun of competition, but you can also make new friends in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, helping to alleviate academic stress. Students of all skill levels are welcome to join us. Let's experience this new sports trend sweeping through Singapore together!
CAS Strand: Activity
Participants will learn the rules and master fundamental skills such as serving, groundstrokes, and volleys in the non-volley zone (the 'kitchen'), with particular emphasis on developing precise ball control. A typical session is structured in two parts: it begins with technical instruction and practice, followed by grouped matches. These matches, primarily played in a doubles format, allow students to apply their skills in an engaging setting that balances friendly play with meaningful competition.
Through this activity, participants will be able to:
·Enhance physical fitness, promote mental well-being, and effectively relieve academic stress;
·Meet like-minded peers and expand their social circle;
·Develop cooperation and team spirit (essential in doubles play);
·Cultivate perseverance and build character through sportsmanship.
Lasallian Principles: Respect for All Persons
Respect for All Persons: The very nature of pickleball doubles requires constant communication and cooperation. On the court, students learn to respect every teammate and opponent, extending this respect into their daily interactions off the court.
Inclusive Community: We warmly welcome students of all ability levels. With its low barrier to entry and quick learning curve, the sport quickly fosters a friendly community where every participant feels accepted and supported.
Quality Education: By systematically learning the techniques and strategies of pickleball and applying them in friendly matches, students not only improve their physical fitness but also cultivate focus, strategic thinking, and sporting behaviour—grace in both victory and defeat. These qualities complement and enhance their academic pursuits.
