In this service-learning cca will partner with members of Anglican Care Centre–Hougang (ACC-Hougang) to advocate against the stigmatisation of mental health conditions. Each Wednesday, students will welcome ACC-Hougang members to campus for lunch, followed by befriending sessions that include conversations, games, and purposeful activities identified by the organisation to support their members’ well-being.
Through this engagement, students gain a deeper understanding of mental health and well-being in Singapore and the importance of building an inclusive society for Persons with Mental Health Issues (PMHI). Students will develop communication, empathy, and collaboration skills as they work closely with peers, ACC-Hougang members, and staff.
CAS Strand: Service
This programme is service-learning because students engage in meaningful, ongoing interaction with ACC-Hougang members while learning about the real issue of mental health stigma in Singapore. Students contribute to social inclusion through shared meals, conversations, and activities, while developing key skills such as empathy, communication, and collaboration. Guided reflection helps students connect their experiences to personal growth and social responsibility, making this a genuine service-learning opportunity
Lasallian Principles: Quality Education and Inclusive Community
By engaging directly with ACC-Hougang members, students practise deep respect, listening, valuing lived experiences, and challenging stereotypes around mental health.
Shared meals and befriending activities foster belonging and connection, creating a space where students and members feel welcomed, included, and supported.
