Recreational Badminton

In this activity, students will learn how to play doubles badminton. Students will learn the basic skills of badminton, strategies for games and the joy of playing. All levels are welcome and students develop their skills in relation to their starting ability.

CAS Strand: Activity

At the beginning of the session, students will work on the basic skills of the sport and then they will identify their weaknesses and strengths relative to badminton. There are a series of drills available for students to improve their weaknesses and over the course of the term. An example of this is serving. Students often enter the CCA with imperfect serving technique. As serving is one of the most important skills for doubles, students will spend much time trying to improve their doubles serving skills. Overhead smashing, drop shots and net play are also areas where students can improve their skills. Every student can identify their strengths and weaknesses and try to improve on this over the course of the term. Most badminton sessions spend the first part of the session on skill development and the second part of the session on games. Students enjoy the games but the games also provide an opportunity to see progress in skill development.

Lasallian Principles: Quality Education

Engagement in this CCA supports the principle of a quality education. Badminton is a sport that has rules and strategies that students will learn but more importantly, playing the sport brings balance to students lives and is fundamental to SJII's holistic approach to education. This CCA will encourage students to participate with other students in a team sport, work on their individual skills and develop a positive attitude to sportsmanship and exercise.
