History Mentoring

History Mentoring

The History Mentoring Program offers junior students the service efforts of their seniors who will coach and support them through History learning. This need in our school stems from how these students need support to mentally cope with the pressures of school, with an older-buddy to given them sound help. The system requires the senior students to design materials that best suit their tutees needs and to cater to their learning with different materials. The materials and activities are all vetted by the teachers and they ensure that quality guidance is given.

CAS Strand: Service

This project comes under Service as it is works to meet the identified needs within our SJII community; specifically for History students. Students need to consult with their mentee and teacher, in order to identify this need, and the program they construct for their mentee is tailored to meet specific needs (understanding or skills or both). At its ideal, mentoring has been seen to have a positive impact on the confidence of younger students, with higher participation and engagement in lessons and projects.

Lasallian Principles: Inclusive Community and Quality Education

This service builds the community spirit of the school and fosters a sense of responsibility for the older students who are sharing and imparting knowledge and skills for their juniors. This will also ensure that the quality education aspect is explored and developed and a sound program of 'paying it forward' is inculcated.
