CAS Strand: Creativity
This CCA aligns with the Creativity strand of CAS as the creation of products such as learning materials or infographics require students to think about what is important and necessary information to include and in this process of critical thinking, generate new and innovative ways to present information. Additionally, the publicising of resources created would help service any community of language learners that would wish to benefit, whether it be in or outside of SJII. The CCA would also fulfil the Service strand of CAS as students will either be able to mentor each other or create valuable language resources that can be passed on through the years and help others to learn as well.
Lasallian Principles: Quality Education and Respect for All Persons
The CCA supports the value of Quality Education as it attempts to aid SJII students as well as members of the larger Singaporean community gain access to easily-available and free materials to learn languages - there is many a time where people are reluctant to learn a new language as they lack the resources and so through this we aim to make that more accessible to all.
In terms of Respect for All Persons, given our diverse community here in SJI International, we believe that through learning another language we may also open our eyes to another person’s culture - for example, as we learn Singlish, we get to know a little more about each of the different cultures that make up Singapore’s cultural landscape. This facilitates intercultural communication and the mutual acceptance and learning of each other’s practices and values, which in turn lays the groundwork for an Inclusive Community.
