Life through a lens: Microscopy

Microscopy

Life through a lens will be an opportunity for students to hone their skills in microscopy and practice making accurate or creative observational drawings from a wide range of cells, tissues and organisms. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own slides in order to explore things beyond the capability of the human eye.

CAS Strand: Creativity

Students may demonstrate creativity through their observational drawings and transform these into art pieces of their choice. They may take inspiration from the structure of organisms to create something unique or perhaps look at it from a different perspective.

Lasallian Principles: Quality education

Pupils will further enhance their understanding of the world around them by forming an appreciation of an organism's structure. They will be able to develop their technique in utilising microscopes in order to observe and draw specimens effectively. This activity can help with mindfulness as pupils focus solely on the moment that they are in and on the sample they observe/draw. Pupils of all ages are encouraged.
