Woodworking Basics

In this activity students will gain foundation skills in woodworking. They will begin by exploring technical drawing by learning to draw in Isometric format. They will learn how to use a range of tools and equipment including saws, files, and drills. Students will explore how to create simple woodworking joints. Students will make simple, practical products from wood such as decorative bookends, storage solutions, and candle holders. Students who do not have prior woodworking knowledge are welcome to participate.

CAS Strand: Creativity

Students explore various skills including problem solving. They are able to express their creativity by applying their own unique designs to a range of practical and functional products. Students could use their new skills to create items to be sold to raise funds for their selected charities.

Lasallian Principles: Quality Education

Education extends beyond the typical classroom environment. Students taking part in this CCA will gain new experiences and ways of thinking. Woodworking exposes students to different ways of solving problems, provides an opportunity to express creative flair, and allows them the ability to apply existing knowledge in a novel context.
