Mindful Crafts

Mindful Crafts

Mindful Crafts is a community-focused group that aims to raise funds in support of the vulnerable in society, through the sale of handmade, quality crafts. Students will be taught both Modern Calligraphy and Kirigami:

1) Modern Calligraphy: Also known as hand-lettering, this is gaining popularity as a way to personalize cards and gifts. We aim to explore various calligraphy styles so that students can find one that expresses their creativity and self.

2) Learning the Art of Kirigami: Kirigami is a variation of origami, the Japanese art of folding paper. In Kirigami, the paper is cut as well as being folded, resulting in a three-dimensional design that pops out!

The process of creating these crafts is ideal for cultivating mindfulness, hence the name of our CCA.

CAS Strand: Creativity

Students learn to express themselves creatively through the art of paper cutting, hand-lettering, and macrame.

Lasallian Principles: Quality Education & Concern for the Poor and Social Justice

Students enter into the CCA either to learn a new craft skill, or to further enhance their craft skills if they already have prior experience. Additionally, they will also find themselves applying skills such as geometry, thinking skills, fractions, and problem solving in the process of craft creation. In raising funds for a charitable cause through the work of their hands, our students are proactively concerned for the poor and social justice.
