Origami is a timeless, traditional Japanese paper craft enjoyed across generations, from early childhood to later life. At its core, it offers a peaceful, non-competitive sanctuary where students can slow down and experience a quiet moment of focus and mindfulness.
While deeply therapeutic, origami is also a powerful educational tool heavily linked to STEM. Recent research shows that paper folding enhances 3D spatial reasoning and helps students physically visualize complex math concepts like geometry and fractions. Furthermore, origami principles are driving modern scientific innovation—used by NASA engineers to fold massive solar panels into rockets and by medical researchers to design tiny, unfolding surgical stents.
This club is entirely inclusive and suitable for students of all backgrounds and skill levels. To cater to everyone, activities are fully differentiated. Members can explore projects aligned with their personal comfort zone—ranging from simple traditional animal shapes to intricate geometric kusudama structures, complex 3D forms, and festive, hand-folded seasonal decorations for campus events
CAS Strand: Creativity
This CCA primarily functions as a Creativity experience, as students explore the traditional art of paper folding and express themselves by designing objects suited to their individual skill levels. However, it potentially extends into Service through student-led initiative and collaboration. As interested students step up into leadership roles, they have the opportunity to collaborate with other school groups or CCAs to launch awareness campaigns. For example, members can design and fold themed origami brooches—such as awareness ribbons or symbolic roses—to distribute during school-wide health or social campaigns. This transforms a creative, personal hobby into a meaningful advocacy project that engages and educates the wider school community.
Lasallian Principles:
By design, the club is a fully inclusive space that welcomes students of all skill levels, ensuring that everyone feels respected, supported, and valued regardless of their artistic background. Furthermore, the club embodies the spirit of Association through its casual, collaborative environment. By bringing together students from different year levels to share a hobby, learn from one another, and naturally step up to guide their peers during workshops, the club fosters a genuine sense of community and mutual respect.
