The Animals Asia empowers students to advocate for wildlife conservation and animal welfare across Southeast Asia, focusing primarily on supporting Animals Asia—an impactful organization based in Vietnam dedicated to ending the inhumane bear bile trade and protecting moon bears, dogs, and cats. Having already established direct contact with the charity, our members will actively collaborate to initiate, plan, and execute one major fundraiser per school term using their official guidelines. Looking ahead, we aim to organize an educational trip to their sanctuary base in Vietnam to deepen our understanding of animal rehabilitation, bringing valuable insights back to our school community while fostering a lifelong passion for ethical leadership and global citizenship.
CAS Strand: Service and Creativity
This CCA provides students with meaningful opportunities to engage with real-world issues and contribute to a wider Asian community. Through participating in Animals for Asia’s initiatives, students get to actively address an ongoing concern, which is animal welfare and conservation in Asia. By simultaneously raising awareness and having opportunities to initiate and plan fundraisers, students will be able to follow the CAS stages of investigation, preparation, action and reflection, demonstrating essential skills such as decision making, problem solving and taking initiative in the process. In further context, students get to identify a need, which is to support the conservation of endangered animals and to help end bear bile farming, prepare and take action by collaborating with fellow CCA members and brainstorming ideas together, and then having the opportunity to reflect upon their actions in Managebac.
Lasallian Principles:
Concern for Poor and Social Justice
The CCA directly embodies the Lasallian core value of Concern for the Poor and Social Justice by actively standing up for the most vulnerable and voiceless victims of systemic cruelty: the Asiatic black bears (or moon bears) subjected to the trauma of illegal bile farming. In a world where their immense suffering is often overlooked, these bears are entirely defenseless, trapped in inhumane conditions solely for human profit. By raising critical funds to provide medical care, food, and rehabilitation for rescued bears, and by spreading awareness to mandate the release of the final 150 bears still trapped in Vietnam, our students actively challenge exploitation and advocate for the unprotected. This hands-on service allows students to put compassion into action, directly aligning with our school’s mission to promote justice, defend those who cannot defend themselves, and foster a more humane and empathetic global society.
Quality Education
Students take true ownership of their learning while developing essential transferable skills in leadership, critical thinking, and project management. Collaborating directly with an international organisation to design strategic fundraisers, and preparing for a future educational immersion at the Vietnam sanctuary, forces students to grapple with complex global issues, cultural practices, and ethical responsibilities. This practical, purpose-driven approach ensures a comprehensive education that nurtures not only academic competency but also the global awareness and personal growth necessary to navigate and improve our world.
